urine versus blood

Blood ketone and glucose tests are simply the gold standard so if you're serious about keto then investing in a good quality meter is not an unwise decision. We have an affiliation with Keto Mojo and we're trying to get them registered in the UAE, however, it's quite a complex process.

That said, not everyone is able to make the financial commitment towards a meter and a lot of people struggle with the idea of using a lancet so a urine strips are a good alternative.

In terms of ketones, urine strips are not very accurate but they do let you know if your body is at least producing ketones so you know the diet is working. That said, don't freak out if you see a lot of purple: this is common if you're a keto pro but it's not a true reflection of volume of 'ketone bodies' are circulating in your blood stream.

The purple on these urine strips suggested you'd have around 15 mmol/l circulating but in reality it would be more like 2-3 mmol/l - trust us, we've tested it :)
